“As they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?”

Jesus in commending John the Baptist, made it clear in the verse that John was not like a reed shaken by the wind. In other words, John was not shaken in his doctrine and purpose by outward circumstances or the changes in culture. He steadfastly held to the truth of God’s word and stood in His righteousness. And that is the way we modern day disciples of Jesus need to be, especially those of us who preach His word.
