Psalm 61:1-3

Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.
From the end of the earth will I cry unto Thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.
For Thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

Bible students know the relationship that King David had with God.  We know that even when he sinned, he cried out to the LORD for forgiveness; he humbled himself under the consequence of his sin, and never spoke against the LORD because of the mess he got himself into.  His cry to the LORD was passionate:  here he asks the LORD to please hear him and attend unto the particular supplication he presented.  He obviously has a sad and burdened heart; and he is crying out to the only One Who can do anything about it. David knew that the burden of his heart could only be lifted by the God he served.  He knew that no other god would do:  he cries out to the God Who had served him well, blessed him greatly, and provided everything he needed.  David knew he could cry out to God whether in the temple or in the field.  God heard and answered prayer when David called on him.

Obviously, David was overwhelmed when he penned this psalm.  He asks the LORD to "...lead me to the Rock that is higher than I..."  That "Rock" is the One Who can give him a safe space when he feels that he is sinking under the weight of the world and his enemies and his sin and all those things with which had to contend.  That Rock is strong and powerful and provides protection and shelter and from the enemy.

Are you overwhelmed?  Are you feeling burdened?  Are you sad?  Cry out to God.  He knows what you are feeling.  He knows the situation.  He is the One Who can either fix the situation or fix you to endure the situation.  He can take you out of the reach of the enemy if He so desires.  There is safety in Him.

If you do not know Him today, don't let this moment pass.  He is waiting for you to come to Him.  He cares about you, which is why He sent His Son to die for you.  He bore your weight of sin on His body on the cross so that you could have eternal life. He wants to be that shelter for you for all eternity; He wants to welcome you into His heavenly kingdom to spend forever and ever enjoying all perfection.  Submit to Him today and allow God to lead you to the Rock...
