When we see vultures circling about in the air, it has always been assumed that they are circling over something that is dead or near death, but there may also be another cause for why they circle: Riding upon invisible funnel shaped thermals that are caused by a mixture of cool and warm air. We just don’t happen to see these thermal funnels except in the most extreme cases.
