Psalm 5:7-8
But as for me, I will come into Thy house in the multitude of Thy mercy: and in Thy fear will I worship toward Thy holy temple.
Lead me, O LORD, in Thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make Thy way straight before my face.
David commits to worship. He commits himself to coming to the LORD's house to give Him the honor He is due. He separates himself from the one who will NOT commit to worship, the one who does not enjoin themselves in the fellowship of the saints, giving the honor to God, which He does deserve. He worships the LORD publicly in the LORD's house so that there is no question about where his worship lies. While he spent much time in private worship in his home, praying to God, he was very consistent in his attendance in the temple. He set a great example for the believers. Our attendance in God's house should be consistent. Our worship of the LORD should be public. Our commitment to the LORD should be obvious.
David took his encouragement straight from the LORD. He asked the LORD to lead him and make his way straight. He humbled himself before the LORD, even after he sinned, and followed after the LORD in an attempt to please the LORD. This is another good example for the believer. There should never be a time, barring some physical obstacle, that we don't take our encouragement from the LORD. The fellowship of the saints and the public worship service is designed in scripture to strengthen the body of believers. We need to humble ourselves and make sure that, even after we sin, we continue to follow the LORD and do all that we can to please Him.
Believers, we should let our public worship be known. We should be like the furniture in our churches: others should expect to see us when they arrive. Let's set an example for others the way the psalmist did for us. Let's go to the LORD's house tomorrow, worship Him in spirit and in truth, hear His Word preached, and take encouragement from that Word. Support your local church! If you don't have a local church, ask the LORD to lead you to a Bible teaching church where you can grow closer to Him.
