Psalm 7:3-5
O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands;
If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:)
Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah.

David knew that he was innocent of whatever he was being accused. He knew that there was no intentional iniquity in this particular situation. We know from reading the scriptures that David never plotted against the king. He respected Saul and the fact that God had anointed him. He humbled himself before the king. He had been falsely accused by the king of treason and an assassination attempt. Even after being falsely accused by Saul, David never rendered evil for evil. David had the opportunity. 1 Samuel 24:4 says, "The men said, This is the day the LORD spoke of when He said to you, ‘I will give your enemy into your hands for you to deal with as you wish.' Then David crept up unnoticed and cut off a corner of Saul’s robe." He could have wrought havoc against Saul, but because of his love for the LORD, his integrity and his respect for the king, he did no harm to Saul.

David prayed and asked the LORD to let him suffer if he had rewarded evil to the one who was at one point at peace with him. He was willingly offering up his life if he was in the wrong. David's giving up the opportunity to mete out his own justice served as a testimony for him. Had he chosen otherwise, it could have meant his doom.

Believers, it would serve us well to walk in this kind of integrity. It would serve us to never repay evil for evil. God sees all the injustices rendered to us, and He lets no sin go unpunished. Proverbs 11:21 says, "Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered." His judgment is better than ours. He can handle our enemies better than we can. Let us the LORD deal with those who come against us. Let us continue to walk in His commands, doing the things that please Him and He will take care of the rest.
