Esther 6:11-12
Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
And Mordecai came again to the king's gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered.
Haman had to do all the things for Mordecai that he thought would be done for him. He draped the royal robe around Mordecai's shoulders and walked through the streets of downtown Shushan, shouting, "This is the man that the king delights to honor!" After this was over, Mordecai went to the king's gate pleased, but Haman went home with his head hung down in shame. Haman had to know by this point that his plan had gone far left. His pride had gotten him in over his head.
That's the thing about sin. It will cost more than we are willing to pay, take us places we are not willing to go, make us stay there longer than we are willing to stay, and leave us lower than we are willing to sink. Sin is the most expensive thing in the world. If only the world turn from its pride and turn to the LORD!
