Beside the Ancestor
She stands where the grass remembers.
The buffalo breathes the old air.
Neither speaks.
Both know why they remain.
Endurance is the weight
that learned how to stay gentle.
It does not rush the ground.
Compassion is standing close
without taking,
without asking the past to move.
Protection is presence—
body beside body,
silence guarding life.
The ancestors are not behind her.
They are beside her.
steady as hide and bone.
This is the lesson given:
walk with what has endured,
And you will not walk alone.
