Joshua 24:14-15
Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve Him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
Joshua compelled the people of Israel to make a choice. He told them to serve the LORD their God with sincerity and turn away from the idols and false gods. But if they could not make that commitment, He would not be joining them in worshipping false gods. He let them know that they could do what they chose, but he would choose to remain faithful to the God of Israel. He took a stand and let them know that he and his house would be serving the true and living God.
As believers, we need to make this same kind of declaration to ourselves, to others and to God. We must make a choice. Will we serve the God Who sent His Son to die a vicarious death for us, so that we could live for all eternity? Or will we choose the gods of the world, which will lead us to eternal damnation? We are either going to serve the LORD Jesus in sincerity, or just turn our backs on Him and serve the false gods of the day. I stand with Joshua: in this house, we WILL serve the true and living God.
