When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which Thou hast ordained;
What is man, that Thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that Thou visitest him?
David considered all the grace that God has bestowed upon man. God has given us all that we see here on the earth: we get to enjoy the bright sunshine, the beautiful moonlight, and the star-filled night sky. All of this is the work of the hand of God. He has given us this majestic beauty to enjoy, knowing full well that we would take it for granted, and actually, we would seek to abuse it by making it an idol. Those who read the stars for the fortune telling and futuristic ideologies are making the stars and the sky something that God never intended. Yet, He allowed us to have them anyway.
David also considered the greatest grace that God bestowed upon man, and that was His Son, Christ Jesus. What is man, that the God of the universe would cover Himself in flesh, come to the earth as a helpless baby, born in the most pitiful of conditions, live a totally sinless life, but allow Himself to be executed for the crimes of humanity? What a deep, unselfish and perfect love that God has for us to make such a sacrifice. David acknowledged that perfect love. We should be reminded of that perfect love as we regularly hear from the LORD while reading and studying His Word.
Thank You LORD, that You are mindful of mankind! Thank You for the sacrifice that You made on the cross. Thank You for taking our weight of sin on Your body on the cross, allowing Your blood to run down and wash away our sins. Thank You for burying our sins with Your body in a borrowed tomb, and defeating death by being resurrected from the dead. Thank You for going to heaven, preparing a place for us, that we may be with You for all eternity. Thank You for Your perfect love.
