Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
And Mordecai came again to the king's gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered.
Haman had to do all the things for Mordecai that he thought would be done for him. He draped the royal robe around Mordecai's shoulders and walked through the streets of downtown Shushan, shouting, "This is the man that the king delights to honor!" After this was over, Mordecai went to the king's gate pleased, but Haman went home with his head hung down in shame. Haman had to know by this point that his plan had gone far left. His pride had gotten him in over his head.
That's the thing about sin. It will cost more than we are willing to pay, take us places we are not willing to go, make us stay there longer than we are willing to stay, and leave us lower than we are willing to sink. Sin is the most expensive thing in the world. God paid the greatest price ever by sending His Son to die for you -- for us. He did this to make His mercy and grace available to all. You have a choice to make. Give up your arrogance and pride, humble yourself, and fear God. He is waiting for you!

The lack of it has brought us to our present low estate. The stiff and wooden quality about our religious lives is a result of our lack of holy desire. Complacency is a deadly foe of all spiritual growth. Acute desire must be present or there will be no manifestation of Christ to His people. He waits to be wanted.
