Beloved, in our salvation, God has made us to be “partakers of Christ” (Heb. 3:14). We have “escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust” (2 Pet. 1:4), and have received “everything pertaining to life and godliness” (2 Pet. 1:3).

We have been regenerated, renewed (Tit. 3:5) and are new creatures (2 Cor. 5:17) with new hearts (Ezek. 36:26), and His Spirit dwells in us (1 Cor. 3:16). By this, we can be said to be “partakers of the divine nature” (2 Pet. 1:4). This is not to say that we have become gods, but that we have become God’s.

By His indwelling Spirit, we have been set free from our former enslavement to sin (Rom 6:6) and were purchased by the blood of the Lamb to become slaves of righteousness (Rom. 6:18).

Let us not continue in our former ways, but walk in the Spirit so that we will not carry out the desires of the flesh (Gal. 5:16). For if we are partakers of the divine, then surely we should reflect His divinity to the world around us. And if we walk by the Spirit, we will do so as we bear the fruit of “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, [and] self-control” (Gal. 5:22).

Therefore brethren, remain in Jesus, and let His words abide in you that you might bear such fruit (Jn. 15:4), proving to be His disciples (Jn. 15:8), and that God may be glorified (Mt. 5:16; Rom. 6:20).

"Partakers of the divine nature." 2 Peter 1:4

To be a partaker of the divine nature is not, of course, to become God. That cannot be. The essence of Deity is not to be participated in by the creature. Between the creature and the Creator there must ever be a gulf fixed in respect of essence; but as the first man Adam was made in the image of God, so we, by the renewal of the Holy Spirit, are in a yet diviner sense made in the image of the Most High, and are partakers of the divine nature. We are, by grace, made like God. "God is love"; we become love- "He that loveth is born of God." God is truth; we become true, and we love that which is true: God is good, and He makes us good by His grace, so that we become the pure in heart who shall see God. Moreover, we become partakers of the divine nature in even a higher sense than this- in fact, in as lofty a sense as can be conceived, short of our being absolutely divine. Do we not become members of the body of the divine person of Christ? Yes, the same blood which flows in the head flows in the hand: and the same life which quickens Christ quickens His people, for "Ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God." Nay, as if this were not enough, we are married unto Christ. He hath betrothed us unto Himself in righteousness and in faithfulness, and he who is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. Oh! marvellous mystery! we look into it, but who shall understand it? One with Jesus- so one with Him that the branch is not more one with the vine than we are a part of the Lord, our Saviour, and our Redeemer! While we rejoice in this, let us remember that those who are made partakers of the divine nature will manifest their high and holy relationship in their intercourse with others, and make it evident by their daily walk and conversation that they have escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. O for more divine holiness of life!

Believer, what have you put before God in your life? Is it work? Money? Leisurely pursuits? Even family?

God does not want your leftovers - He wants all of you. He must be first. He told the Hebrews when He gave them the ten commandments that they were not to make idols for themselves saying, "for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments" (Ex. 20:5-6).

He even claims this as His name further in Exodus when He says to Moses, "you shall not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God" (Ex. 34:14).

God is jealous for you. He does not want to share you. He commanded, "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might" (Deut. 6:5; Mt. 22:37 ; Mk. 12:30).

We are "God's own possession" to be redeemed (Eph. 1:14). He purchased us by the blood of Christ (Acts 20:28). We were bought with a price (1 Cor. 6:20, 7:23), not to be slaves to men, nor to our own desires, but to be "slaves of righteousness" (Rom. 6:18-19). It was for this purpose that Christ set us free.

Dear Christian, having been set free, have you become enslaved once more to the world or the things in it? Take time to meditate today on God's word and consider whether you are giving yourself to Him fully as a faithful servant should.

Your Lord is very jealous of your love, O believer. Did He choose you? He cannot bear that you should choose another. Did He buy you with His own blood? He cannot endure that you should think that you are your own, or that you belong to this world. He loved you with such a love that He would not stop in heaven without you; He would sooner die than you should perish, and He cannot endure that anything should stand between your heart's love and Himself. He is very jealous of your trust. He will not permit you to trust in an arm of flesh. He cannot bear that you should hew out broken cisterns, when the overflowing fountain is always free to you. When we lean upon Him, He is glad, but when we transfer our dependence to another, when we rely upon our own wisdom, or the wisdom of a friend- worst of all, when we trust in any works of our own, He is displeased, and will chasten us that He may bring us to Himself. He is also very jealous of our company. There should be no one with whom we converse so much as with Jesus. To abide in Him only, this is true love; but to commune with the world, to find sufficient solace in our carnal comforts, to prefer even the society of our fellow Christians to secret intercourse with Him, this is grievous to our jealous Lord. He would fain have us abide in Him, and enjoy constant fellowship with Himself; and many of the trials which He sends us are for the purpose of weaning our hearts from the creature, and fixing them more closely upon Himself. Let this jealousy which would keep us near to Christ be also a comfort to us, for if He loves us so much as to care thus about our love we may be sure that He will suffer nothing to harm us, and will protect us from all our enemies. Oh that we may have grace this day to keep our hearts in sacred chastity for our Beloved alone, with sacred jealousy shutting our eyes to all the fascinations of the world!

It seems no matter what or how much God did for them from the time of the Exodus throughout their desert wanderings, the Israelites always grumbled and complained. Despite the freedom from their prior slavery, despite the miracles, despite the provision of their needs, there was always something about which the Israelites were dissatisfied or displeased and over which they were willing to turn from God.

Christian, is this you today? Are you not content with that which God has provided? Are you so downtrodden that you rail against the one who set you free from your slavery to sin? Has He not promised that if we seek His kingdom first, He will make sure all of our needs are met? Let us not be as the Israelites. Instead, let us, as James exhorts, count it all joy when we face trials of many kinds. Let us, as Paul instructs, be grateful and give thanks in all things, even our trials, that we might be made holy by the One who is Most Holy.

There are murmurers amongst Christians now, as there were in the camp of Israel of old. There are those who, when the rod falls, cry out against the afflictive dispensation. They ask, "Why am I thus afflicted? What have I done to be chastened in this manner?" A word with thee, O murmurer! Why shouldst thou murmur against the dispensations of thy heavenly Father? Can He treat thee more hardly than thou deservest? Consider what a rebel thou wast once, but He has pardoned thee! Surely, if He in His wisdom sees fit now to chasten thee, thou shouldst not complain. After all, art thou smitten as hardly as thy sins deserve? Consider the corruption which is in thy breast, and then wilt thou wonder that there needs so much of the rod to fetch it out? Weigh thyself, and discern how much dross is mingled with thy gold; and dost thou think the fire too hot to purge away so much dross as thou hast? Does not that proud rebellious spirit of thine prove that thy heart is not thoroughly sanctified? Are not those murmuring words contrary to the holy submissive nature of God's children? Most go through life never acknowledging the spiritual sickness they suffer, the sin to which they are enslaved. It is easier to reject God or any moral responsibility to a higher authority. But God knows. God sees. And rather than leave us to wallow in our fallen state, in His love, He sent His Son, Jesus, to suffer a brutal death on a cross to bring us spiritual healing. Only through faith in Him may we receive this blessed benefit.

Pilate delivered our Lord to the lictors to be scourged. The Roman scourge was a most dreadful instrument of torture. It was made of the sinews of oxen, and sharp bones were inter-twisted every here and there among the sinews; so that every time the lash came down these pieces of bone inflicted fearful laceration, and tore off the flesh from the bone. The Saviour was, no doubt, bound to the column, and thus beaten. He had been beaten before; but this of the Roman lictors was probably the most severe of His flagellations. My soul, stand here and weep over His poor stricken body.

Believer in Jesus, can you gaze upon Him without tears, as He stands before you the mirror of agonizing love? He is at once fair as the lily for innocence, and red as the rose with the crimson of His own blood. As we feel the sure and blessed healing which His stripes have wrought in us, does not our heart melt at once with love and grief? If ever we have loved our Lord Jesus, surely we must feel that affection glowing now within our bosoms.

"See how the patient Jesus stands,
Insulted in His lowest case!
Sinners have bound the Almighty's hands,
And spit in their Creator's face.
With thorns His temples gor'd and gash'd
Send streams of blood from every part;

We would fain go to our chambers and weep; but since our business calls us away, we will first pray our Beloved to print the image of His bleeding self upon the tablets of our hearts all the day, and at nightfall we will return to commune with Him, and sorrow that our sin should have cost Him so dear.

Does anyone want to draft a letter to President Trump to Push back on his globalism, finance, medical (vaccine), indivudual person tracking, and technology (brain chip) goals? We can applaud the rightful things has has done so far, but we need to stand firm on those initiatives that will revoke our freedoms. If we do not stand up, we will be slaves. Anyone?
