Israel is a somewhat tricky and often contentious subject for Christians. “God says ‘those who bless Israel will be blessed, and those who curse Israel will be cursed,’ so we must support Israel.”

But what is “Israel”? For many, specifically, those who would make the statement above, the middle-eastern state that was founded in the 1940s is Israel; however, while the country of Israel exists primarily on the land God promised Abraham, the nation of Israel in Scripture is not a place - it is a people.

Scour the Old Testament and you will find God’s “chosen” people to be referred to as both Israel, and the sons of Israel, as the label was derived from the name given to Jacob after he had “striven with God and…prevailed” (Gen. 32:28). From then on, God’s people were called “Israel,” regardless of where they were.

But not all those who descended from Jacob were saved. Paul even tells us that “they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel” (Rom. 9:6). As Paul further explains, it is not ethnicity or genetics that makes one a child of God, it is God’s choice, those of/who receive the promise (Rom. 9). Jesus Himself makes this clear when He tells the Pharisees that they are not children of Abraham, but children of the devil, because they are not of the faith of Abraham (Jn. 8:39-47).

Paul affirms this in Romans chapter 4 and Galatians 3 when he explains that Abraham’s descendants, those who would receive the promise, are those who are “of the faith of Abraham” (Rom. 4:16; Gal. 3:7).

Thus, when Paul writes, “and so all Israel will be saved,” he is not speaking of those who are genetically descended from Jacob, but of us, Christians, the body of Christ, all who chosen of God and who are of the faith. They are Israel because they are chosen, not chosen because they are Israel.

Brethren, let us then be humble in knowing that our belonging to Israel, being grafted in by God’s choice and doing (Rom. 11:17), understanding that some were cut off, and that those who were cut off may yet be grafted back in, should God open their eyes and they do not continue in their unbelief (Rom. 11:18-25). Let us be ever thankful that God sought us out, and that according to His will, He saved us (Eph. 1:5).

"And so all Israel shall be saved." Romans 11:26

Then Moses sang at the Red Sea, it was his joy to know that all Israel were safe. Not a drop of spray fell from that solid wall until the last of God's Israel had safely planted his foot on the other side the flood. That done, immediately the floods dissolved into their proper place again, but not till then. Part of that song was, "Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed." In the last time, when the elect shall sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and of the Lamb, it shall be the boast of Jesus, "Of all whom thou hast given me, I have lost none." In heaven there shall not be a vacant throne.

"For all the chosen race
Shall meet around the throne,
Shall bless the conduct of His grace,
And make His glories known."

As many as God hath chosen, as many as Christ hath redeemed, as many as the Spirit hath called, as many as believe in Jesus, shall safely cross the dividing sea. We are not all safely landed yet:

"Part of the host have crossed the flood,
And part are crossing now."

The vanguard of the army has already reached the shore. We are marching through the depths; we are at this day following hard after our Leader into the heart of the sea. Let us be of good cheer: the rear-guard shall soon be where the vanguard already is; the last of the chosen ones shall soon have crossed the sea, and then shall be heard the song of triumph, when all are secure. But oh! if one were absent- oh! if one of His chosen family should be cast away- it would make an everlasting discord in the song of the redeemed, and cut the strings of the harps of paradise, so that music could never be extorted from them.

Dear brethren, do you groan within yourself, eagerly awaiting our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies (Rom. 8:23)? It is well you do. Let us have the confidence of Paul that God, having begun a good work in you, will bring it to completion (Phil. 1:6).

As Solomon asserts in Ecclesiastes, “the end of a matter is better than its beginning” (Ecc. 7:8).

Yes! While we are blessed to have been called, humbled to be among the elect, our life in these tents is fraught with tribulation. Yet our trials here cannot compare to what God has prepared for us (1 Cor. 2:9). And such should be our focus, remembering that nothing can separate us from God’s love for us (Rom. 8:38), and that Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us so He can come to take us to be with Him (Jn. 14:2-3).

Let us rejoice in this knowledge that, in the twinkling of an eye, we will be changed; we will put off this corruptible flesh and be clothed with incorruptible bodies (1 Cor. 15:52-54). Then we will go to be with Him forever, where there will no longer be pain nor tear, no illness or death, where God will be our temple and our sun; and indeed, the end of the salvation God wrought in Christ for us will be even better than the beginning!

Look at David's Lord and Master; see His beginning. He was despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. Would you see the end? He sits at His Father's right hand, expecting until His enemies be made his footstool. "As He is, so are we also in this world." You must bear the cross, or you shall never wear the crown; you must wade through the mire, or you shall never walk the golden pavement. Cheer up, then, poor Christian. "Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof." See that creeping worm, how contemptible its appearance! It is the beginning of a thing. Mark that insect with gorgeous wings, playing in the sunbeams, sipping at the flower bells, full of happiness and life; that is the end thereof. That caterpillar is yourself, until you are wrapped up in the chrysalis of death; but when Christ shall appear you shall be like Him, for you shall see Him as He is. Be content to be like Him, a worm and no man, that like Him you may be satisfied when you wake up in His likeness. That rough-looking diamond is put upon the wheel of the lapidary. He cuts it on all sides. It loses much- much that seemed costly to itself. The king is crowned; the diadem is put upon the monarch's head with trumpet's joyful sound. I Am the Bear

I do not rush.
The world can wait.

I was born from seasons,
from snow that remembers footsteps,
from fire that teaches when to rest.
My strength is not loud.
It is patient.

I stand where fear slows down.
Where breath becomes honest.
Those who meet my eyes feel it

While I admit that I do not believe that Sasquatches presently exist, the writer of the piece does makes some valid points in that there are places throughout the world, including in our own nation, that remain largely unexplored and may very well be inhabited by life forms not yet known to us, forgotten by the world, or once thought extinct among other things that have yet to be discovered; it has happened before and will likely happen again. He is also right in stating that science is never advanced by dismissing or suppressing data or evidence that may challenge conventional thinking but only advances when data and evidence are honestly and thoughtfully reviewed and civil debate and dialogue are allowed to take place.

1 Woe to the land shadowing with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia:

2 That sendeth ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes upon the waters, saying, Go, ye swift messengers, to a nation scattered and peeled, to a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden down, whose land the rivers have spoiled!

3 All ye inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the earth, see ye, when he lifteth up an ensign on the mountains; and when he bloweth a trumpet, hear ye.

4 For so the LORD said unto me, I will take my rest, and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs, and like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.

5 For afore the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches.

6 They shall be left together unto the fowls of the mountains, and to the beasts of the earth: and the fowls shall summer upon them, and all the beasts of the earth shall winter upon them.

7 In that time shall the present be brought unto the LORD of hosts of a people scattered and peeled, and from a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden under foot, whose land the rivers have spoiled, to the place of the name of the LORD of hosts, the mount Zion.
