When Jesus shared that last Passover with His disciples, He raised a glass of wine and stated, “this is is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins” (Mt. 26:28). He declared this to be a new covenant (Lk. 22:20), which Paul echoed when he wrote that God, through Christ, “made us adequate as servants of a new covenant” (2 Cor. 3:6).

Our covenant with God is in Christ. Through Christ, He promises us salvation. God Himself provided not only the method, but the means, as He did with Abraham when Abraham was set to offer His own son. As Abraham took his son up to sacrifice him, Isaac asked, “where is the lamb,” to which Abraham responded, “God will provide for Himself the lamb” (Gen. 22:7-8). And indeed God did! Not only for Abraham (Gen. 22:13), but for us!!!

God provided for Himself the sacrifice necessary to seal the covenant between Him and us. As He foretold of Christ through Isaiah, “I will keep You and give You for a covenant of the people” (Isa, 49:8). Christ was given as a covenant for us, and we have assurance through Him of the salvation God has promised.

Let us celebrate that, just as we now celebrate the new year, we also have been made new through the covenant sealed by Christ’s sacrifice. As Scripture says, “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature” (2 Cor. 5:17).

Praise God and be ever thankful that He provided for Himself the Lamb which brought us into covenant with Him.

Jesus Christ is Himself the sum and substance of the covenant, and as one of its gifts He is the property of every believer. Believer, canst thou estimate what thou hast gotten in Christ? "In Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." Consider that word "God" and its infinity, and then meditate upon "perfect man" and all his beauty; for all that Christ, as God and man, ever had, or can have, is thine- out of pure free favour, passed over to thee to be thine entailed property forever. Our blessed Jesus, as God, is omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent. Will it not console you to know that all these great and glorious attributes are altogether yours? Has he power? That power is yours to support and strengthen you, to overcome your enemies, and to preserve you even to the end. Has He love? Well, there is not a drop of love in His heart which is not yours; you may dive into the immense ocean of His love, and you may say of it all, "It is mine." Hath He justice? It may seem a stern attribute, but even that is yours, for He will by His justice see to it that all which is promised to you in the covenant of grace shall be most certainly secured to you. And all that He has as perfect man is yours. As a perfect man the Father's delight was upon Him. He stood accepted by the Most High. O believer, God's acceptance of Christ is thine acceptance; for knowest thou not that the love which the Father set on a perfect Christ, He sets on thee now? For all that Christ did is thine. That perfect righteousness which Jesus wrought out, when through His stainless life He kept the law and made it honourable, is thine, and is imputed to thee. Christ is in the covenant.

"My God, I am thine- what a comfort divine!
What a blessing to know that the Saviour is mine!
In the heavenly Lamb thrice happy I am,
And my heart it doth dance at the sound of His name."

Abraham petitioned God multiple times over regarding Sodom before its destruction, that if any righteous men be found in the city, God would spare it for their sakes. Alas, though Abraham haggled from fifty down to ten, the number was not met and Sodom and Gomorrah met a fiery fate.

Yet later, when Paul is concerned about preaching in Corinth, God exhorted Paul not to be afraid or silent, because, He related, “I have many people in this city” (Acts 18:10). Notice God’s phrasing: “I have…” They belong to Him, as do we! We are His!

Believer, never doubt that you are God’s possession, purchased with His own blood (Acts 20:28), by His choice (Eph. 1:4) according to His will (Eph. 1:5). You are no longer a slave to sin, for the Truth (Jesus) has set you free (Jn. 8:34-36). Therefore, we are to be separate, not like this world, but transformed (Rom. 12:2).

God calls us His people, saying, “I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their god, and they shall be my people” (2 Cor. 6:16). Let us live as those who belong to Him, those who are slaves to righteousness (Rom. 6:19), enslaved to God (Rom. 6:22), not having fellowship with darkness nor idols, that He may be a father to us, and we may be His children (2 Cor. 6:14-18).

And let us not fear to preach His gospel, as He exhorted Paul, for God has many people in “this city.”

This should be a great encouragement to try to do good, since God has among the vilest of the vile, the most reprobate, the most debauched and drunken, an elect people who must be saved. When you take the Word to them, you do so because God has ordained you to be the messenger of life to their souls, and they must receive it, for so the decree of predestination runs. They are as much redeemed by blood as the saints before the eternal throne. They are Christ's property, and yet perhaps they are lovers of the ale-house, and haters of holiness; but if Jesus Christ purchased them He will have them. God is not unfaithful to forget the price which His Son has paid. He will not suffer His substitution to be in any case an ineffectual, dead thing. Tens of thousands of redeemed ones are not regenerated yet, but regenerated they must be; and this is our comfort when we go forth to them with the quickening Word of God.

Nay, more, these ungodly ones are prayed for by Christ before the throne. "Neither pray I for these alone," saith the great Intercessor, "but for them also which shall believe on Me through their word." Poor, ignorant souls, they know nothing about prayer for themselves, but Jesus prays for them. Their names are on His breastplate, and ere long they must bow their stubborn knee, breathing the penitential sigh before the throne of grace. "The time of figs is not yet." The predestinated moment has not struck; but, when it comes, they shall obey, for God will have His own; they must, for the Spirit is not to be withstood when He cometh forth with fulness of power- they must become the willing servants of the living God. "My people shall be willing in the day of my power." "He shall justify many." "He shall see of the travail of His soul." "I will divide him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong."

This is interesting...BUT I used to work Property Tax and actually worked this area. From Springfield.. Property tax is set by the STATE OF IL not Chicago. AND the State is to TEACH the Assessors Office Personnel The people ALL NEED to Appeal. Some one is apparently wanting that location...it makes you wonder WHAT MINERAL OR MINERALS ARE UNDER THE PROPERTIES.

The camp of Dan brought up the rear when the armies of Israel were on the march. The Danites occupied the hindmost place, but what mattered the position, since they were as truly part of the host as were the foremost tribes; they followed the same fiery cloudy pillar, they ate of the same manna, drank of the same spiritual rock, and journeyed to the same inheritance. Come, my heart, cheer up, though last and least; it is thy privilege to be in the army, and to fare as they fare who lead the van. Some one must be hindmost in honour and esteem, some one must do menial work for Jesus, and why should not I? In a poor village, among an ignorant peasantry; or in a back street, among degraded sinners, I will work on, and "go hindmost with my standard."

The Danites occupied a very useful place. Stragglers have to be picked up upon the march, and lost property has to be gathered from the field. Fiery spirits may dash forward over untrodden paths to learn fresh truth, and win more souls to Jesus; but some of a more conservative spirit may be well engaged in reminding the church of her ancient faith, and restoring her fainting sons. Every position has its duties, and the slowly moving children of God will find their peculiar state one in which they may be eminently a blessing to the whole host.

The rear guard is a place of danger. There are foes behind us as well as before us. Attacks may come from any quarter. We read that Amalek fell upon Israel, and slew some of the hindmost of them. The experienced Christian will find much work for his weapons in aiding those poor doubting, desponding, wavering, souls, who are hindmost in faith, knowledge, and joy. These must not be left unaided, and therefore be it the business of well-taught saints to bear their standards among the hindmost. My soul, do thou tenderly watch to help the hindmost this day.
