• Christians, hatred for us and our beliefs abound, and not surprisingly. Jesus told us, "If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you" (Jn. 15:18-19).

    Attacks from this world occur daily, but they should not be unexpected. They should, however, steel us in our convictions. We should pray along with David, "Lead me, O Lord, in Thy righteousness because of mine enemies" (Ps. 5:8).

    Despite all attacks, we must carry on. We have our armor (Eph. 6:13-16) to protect us, and by which we may "quench all the fiery darts of the wicked" (Eph. 6:16). And we have our offensive weapon, our sword as it would be, in the Word of God (Eph. 6:17). This weapon is sharper than any two-edged sword, capable of dividing between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart (Heb. 4:12).

    So let us not repay evil for evil; for the Lord will avenge His chosen (Rom. 12:19).

    This does not mean we cannot pray for justice. This is, after all, what even David did, and God called David a man after His own heart (1 Sam. 13:14). In this same Psalm where David prays to be kept in righteousness, he requests of God, "Hold them guilty, O God; by their own devices let them fall! In the multitude of their transgressions thrust them out, for they are rebellious against You" (Ps. 5:10).

    God hates sin. God desires justice. We should as well. But never let our desire for justice allow us to descend into vengeance. We are to pray for our enemies (Mt. 5:44), that they would be changed by God and turned from their wickedness, or that God would exact justice upon them. You can even pray for both.

    Do not let the schemes of your enemies lead you astray; instead, always let God lead you in His righteousness.

    Spurgeon's Morning and Evening Devotions

    Evening, September 11

    "Lead me, O Lord, in Thy righteousness because of mine enemies." Psalms 5:8

    Very bitter is the enmity of the world against the people of Christ. Men will forgive a thousand faults in others, but they will magnify the most trivial offence in the followers of Jesus. Instead of vainly regretting this, let us turn it to account, and since so many are watching for our halting, let this be a special motive for walking very carefully before God. If we live carelessly, the lynx-eyed world will soon see it, and with its hundred tongues, it will spread the story, exaggerated and emblazoned by the zeal of slander. They will shout triumphantly. "Aha! So would we have it! See how these Christians act! They are hypocrites to a man." Thus will much damage be done to the cause of Christ, and much insult offered to His name. The cross of Christ is in itself an offence to the world; let us take heed that we add no offence of our own. It is "to the Jews a stumblingblock": let us mind that we put no stumblingblocks where there are enough already. "To the Greeks it is foolishness": let us not add our folly to give point to the scorn with which the worldly-wise deride the gospel. How jealous should we be of ourselves! How rigid with our consciences! In the presence of adversaries who will misrepresent our best deeds, and impugn our motives where they cannot censure our actions, how circumspect should we be! Pilgrims travel as suspected persons through Vanity Fair. Not only are we under surveillance, but there are more spies than we reck of. The espionage is everywhere, at home and abroad. If we fall into the enemies' hands we may sooner expect generosity from a wolf, or mercy from a fiend, than anything like patience with our infirmities from men who spice their infidelity towards God with scandals against His people. O Lord, lead us ever, lest our enemies trip us up!

  • People are laying blame for the shooting of Charlie Kirk on all sorts of external influences: politics, religion, rhetoric. What most seem to ignore, and what all of those "influences" reflect, is the basic nature of humanity, what dwells within us all when we have not received the change of heart that can be wrought only by God through Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders" (Mt. 15:19).

    Like it or not, this is human nature. And when God is rejected, He turns us over to it:

    "And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them" (Rom. 1:28-32).

    If that last paragraph does not describe America today, I don't know what does.

    It is time to turn back to God. People need the redeeming grace offered only through Jesus Christ. He is "the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but by" Him (Jn. 14:6). For, "there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).

    So I urge you today, "believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31).

    Paul attested that the gospel was not only the power of God for salvation to those who believe (Rom. 1:16), but that it was simple:

    "For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also" (1 Cor. 15:3-8).

    This isn't a fairytale. It is attested by witnesses, not only the 500 mentioned here who were alive to refute Paul if he lied, but through so many other historical documents and witnesses.

    Therefore, I implore you today, follow the Scripture that, "if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation" (Rom. 10:9-10).

  • Christian, are you weary of weeping? Do you long to be done with sorrows? For now, we weep with those who weep (Rom. 12:15), but remember, this world is passing away. Keep your eyes upon Jesus. For when we enter into His kingdom, "the Lamb in the center of the throne will be [our] shepherd, and will guide [us] to springs of the water of life; and God will wipe every tear from [our] eyes" (Rev. 7:17). Even in weeping, let us find joy, for when He returns, we shall have joy everlasting, and our "voice of weeping shall be no more heard" (Isa. 65.19).

    Spurgeon's Morning and Evening Devotions

    Morning, August 23

    "The voice of weeping shall be no more heard." Isaiah 65:19

    The glorified weep no more, for all outward causes of grief are gone. There are no broken friendships, nor blighted prospects in heaven. Poverty, famine, peril, persecution, and slander, are unknown there. No pain distresses, no thought of death or bereavement saddens. They weep no more, for they are perfectly sanctified. No "evil heart of unbelief" prompts them to depart from the living God; they are without fault before His throne, and are fully conformed to His image. Well may they cease to mourn who have ceased to sin. They weep no more, because all fear of change is past. They know that they are eternally secure. Sin is shut out, and they are shut in. They dwell within a city which shall never be stormed; they bask in a sun which shall never set; they drink of a river which shall never dry; they pluck fruit from a tree which shall never wither. Countless cycles may revolve, but eternity shall not be exhausted, and while eternity endures, their immortality and blessedness shall co-exist with it. They are for ever with the Lord. They weep no more, because every desire is fulfilled. They cannot wish for anything which they have not in possession. Eye and ear, heart and hand, judgment, imagination, hope, desire, will, all the faculties, are completely satisfied; and imperfect as our present ideas are of the things which God hath prepared for them that love him, yet we know enough, by the revelation of the Spirit, that the saints above are supremely blessed. The joy of Christ, which is an infinite fulness of delight, is in them. They bathe themselves in the bottomless, shoreless sea of infinite beatitude. That same joyful rest remains for us. It may not be far distant. Ere long the weeping willow shall be exchanged for the palm-branch of victory, and sorrow's dewdrops will be transformed into the pearls of everlasting bliss. "Wherefore comfort one another with these words."

    A little story about church...

    We had a fellowship tonight at church. Somebody told me last week that it was a church-wide fellowship, so my husband and I were planning to go, but this morning I noticed in the bulletin that it was for the young adults' SS classes (early 20s-early 40s). We're almost 56 and 61.

    I mentioned this offhand to a couple of the younger women I was chatting with after the service this morning and said we probably wouldn't go because we didn't want to be "party crashers". They both declared that to be silly and said, "Just come. Nobody's going to give that a second thought.".

    So we decided to go, mainly because we love these young people, but also because we think the Titus 2 multi-gen model is important and we want to help foster that. (Just an aside- all my life I've attended churches with age segregated adult SS classes, and in my experience this really hinders Titus 2 multi-gen fellowship and relationships.)

    So we went. Out of about 75 attendees, we were the oldest people there. And we had a wonderful time spending time with these young adults we love. And they seemed to feel the same way, and acted like it was perfectly natural that we were there.

    This is just one of the reasons I love my church so much.

    But I'll be honest- I have encountered so many downright ugly younger professing Christians on social media who take every chance they get to disrespectfully slander their older "Boomer" brothers and sisters in Christ, that every time I'm in a situation like I was in tonight, I wonder if any of the younger people I'm with are secretly thinking such things about my husband and me. And sometimes I'm hesitant to fellowship with them because of that.

    And you know what I do? I tell that thought to shut up and go away, because the younger people at my church aren't like that. They love us, and we love them.

    Moral of the story: Don't listen to ungodly idiots on X who wouldn't know Christian character if it walked up and introduced itself, and go love your church.

  • Is the Era of Truth Over?

    Truth-tellers are slandered every day by alleged “fact checkers” and “verification sites” such as NewsGuard that I recently exposed. I find it extraordinary that Americans can be so stupid as to believe snake oil salesman. Anyone can be set up by “control-the-explanation-money” to be a “fact checker” or “verification site.” If you look at the personnel involved in these slander websites, which is all that they are, there is no one of any consequence or achievement. All of them are people of zero accomplishment other than the art of slander.

    Does it occur to Americans to wonder who sets up these sites for the purpose of suppressing truth and discrediting truth-tellers? Probably not. Many Americans still think that they live in a free democratic country.

    And He said to them, “Are you lacking understanding in this way as well? Do you not perceive that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him, because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and goes to the sewer?” (Thus He declared all foods clean.) And He was saying, “That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, sexual immoralities, thefts, murders, adulteries, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man.”

I attempted to reply to his slanderous post, but he TURNED COMMENTS OFF! This shows he is just as bad as all the Leftists who stifle free speech! I was right in blocking him. Can't respect someone who doesn't even allow a reply. Comments to this post NOT turned off!
    Okay. This innane bag of wind, Jeff Herzog was blocked by me, which is a private matter. He decided to make a public spectacle of it and slandered me in public. I attempted to reply to his slanderous post, but he TURNED COMMENTS OFF! This shows he is just as bad as all the Leftists who stifle free speech! I was right in blocking him. Chapter 3
    1What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?

    2Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.

    3For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?

    4God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

    5But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man)

    6God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?

    7For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner?

    8And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.

    9What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;

    10As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

    11There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

    12They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

    13Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:

    14Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:

    15Their feet are swift to shed blood:

    16Destruction and misery are in their ways:

    17And the way of peace have they not known:

    18There is no fear of God before their eyes.

    19Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

    20Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

    21But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

    22Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

    23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

    24Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

    25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

    26To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

    27Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

    28Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

    29Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:

    30Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.

    31Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
