Genesis 1:7-8
And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

The second day's creative activities were concluded. God made the heavens separate from the earth that day. He divided the waters, which we know as the ocean, or the sea, from the heavens, or the clouds. He called the firmament that He made "heaven". Sometimes when I look at the beautiful sky above, I can see why He would call it that.

Even today, if you go to the ocean and look at the horizon, you can see the remnant of God's creative work. I love the beach, and I spend time there every summer. As I sit on the beach looking at that perfectly straight line where the waters meet the skies, I always think of Psalm 19:1, which says, "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handywork." No one else could have come up with the idea of the heavens and the earth except God. The most creatively talented human being could not have come up with the idea of the skies and the oceans meeting, but being separate at the same time. No one could have made the horizon such a perfectly straight line, and cause the wonder of it to mesmerize those of us who love to marvel at the majesty of God.

My heart goes out to those who have been deceived into thinking that the heavens and the earth were created by anything other than God. Any believer, or anyone who has any common sense, knows that the creation has a Creator, and He is God. I am grateful for His creativity, and for how He has allowed us to enjoy the fruits of His imagination.
