Genesis 1:29-31
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
And God saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Here we see that God had given to the man everything needed for survival. The earth produced food for man to eat. God had given all the plants to the man to feed him, so that he had no need for anything else. Everything was good.
God did not provide flesh for the human until after the flood (Genesis 9:3). Everything that man needed came from the earth, just like man came from the earth. When we think about it, before sin entered the world, we had the perfect setup! Everything was simple and perfect and sinless and worry-free.
I think of the earth back then as being so beautiful. I imagine that while man had all that was needed to sustain himself, he also was able to take in all the beauty that God created. Not only was his hunger satisfied, but so was his soul...he could sit and enjoy the majesty of the ocean, the beauty of the flowers, grass and trees, while listening to the sweet song of the birds flying overhead. He could enjoy the radiant sunlight during the day and beautiful, bright moon and stars at night. Life was good. Things were calm. Life was peaceful.
God knew then and He knows now that everything He made was good. All that God does is perfect. There is no imperfection or shortcoming in Him. There is no sin or failure or lack in Him. God is perfect and holy and righteous and glorious and majestic and true and SOVEREIGN. He completed His creation in six 24 hour days, and it was good.
