Genesis 2:7
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
When the palmist wrote Psalm 139, he perfectly described the work that God did on the sixth day. He said, "For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And intricately woven in the depths of the earth;
Your eyes have seen my unshaped substance; And in Your book all of them were written. The days that were formed for me, When as yet there was not one of them." (Verses 13-16).
God created the most unique of all His creations when He breathed the breath of life into man. He gave man so many distinct characteristics that He did not give to any of the other creatures, the main characteristic being a spirit that could bear witness to the Holy Spirit. No other creature can have a personal relationship with the LORD Jesus. Do I believe that the other creatures somehow know they are created, and they give honor to their Creator? Yes, I believe on some level they do know. At the same time, I know that they do not have a spirit man who accepts or rejects the LORD Jesus in the same manner as humans. They are not eternal; when they die, there is no choice for them between heaven and hell. They cease to exist, while mankind continues to exist forever. Once a human is conceived, he becomes an eternal soul. When God made man, He made him wonderfully and marvelously different from anything else.
Since humanity is different, there are different expectations. Obedience to God is the one thing that humans are expected to demonstrate, whereas the animal kingdom does it naturally. For example, there are certain breeds in the animal kingdom that mate for life. I remember visiting a bird park, and watching the pairs of birds move around the park together in perfect synchronicity. They did not leave each other's side, and our tour guide told us that they mate for life...they stay together with each other until one of them dies. I had a pair of diamond doves years ago, and they were mated to the point that when one of them died, the other one made it a point to die in the same spot as the first one. It was an unbelievable experience. I have read that the same is true for large underwater animals such as orcas. They mate for life until one of them dies, and then the surviving mate will choose another mate, ONLY after the death of the original mate. They are very different from humans, who make a commitment to one mate, and before the wedding is paid off, they are divorced and working on another partner, if they even bother to marry! I read recently about a celebrity who has fathered 12 children with nearly as many women, but is married to none of them. In cases such as these, the obedience factor is better in the animal kingdom than in humanity!
Man is an eternal soul, and will exist in one of two places after death: humanity will either submit their lives to the LORD Jesus Christ while they are here on earth so that they can spend eternity with Him in heaven, or they will reject Him here on earth and be cast directly into hell upon death. The choice is ours! Be sure to be on the right side of that decision before your soul is required. Your eternity is at stake.
