James 4:17
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
James warns us in this passage that if we learned to do better and we do not, it is counted as sin. We know the consequences of sin...and there are always consequences! When we know what is right, but we do what is wrong, it is an affront to the Holy God. It is our duty as His children to honor Him with our obedience.
None of us is perfect. We struggle with this flesh all the time. Before my feet hit the floor this morning, I am sure I had a sinful thought. Before I left the house, I probably spoke sinful words or behaved ina sinful manner. But God sent His Son so that we do not have to be slaves to our sin. We can be free to be obedient to Him. It is our duty, as Paul told the church at Rome, to present ourselves holy and acceptable before the Almighty God. It is our duty to strive for perfection, even though we know we will never obtain it. Obedience to God and holy living pleases the LORD. It is our job to make sure we do our best to please Him.
Believers, let's examine ourselves today to make sure that those things that we know are sin are put away and we are walking in holiness before our Father.
