Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
"In the beginning" signifies the start of it all, the birth, the outset, the very formation of what was to come. In the beginning, God was there. He was there before the beginning and during the beginning. This is foundational for us as Bible students to understand. God was and always will be. We cannot actually and fully understand this, but our understanding has no bearing on the truth of the statement. God was there in the beginning, regardless of what we think or choose to believe.
While He was there, He decided to create the heavens and the earth. He, by His own imagination, came up with everything that we see and enjoy in creation. He imagined the skies and created them. He imagined the land and created it. He imagined the sea: and am I so glad He did! He imagined the oceans and the beaches that I enjoy every summer. He was the one who told the sun how hot to get, He tells the rain how long to fall, He tells the oceans how far to come up on the shore. He did this during the week of creation, regardless of what we think or choose to believe.
The world will try to sell us on theories of how the world came to be. Those theories are actually not true. God's Word gives us the truth of how the world came to be. If we don't get it right in Genesis 1:1, there's little hope that we'll get anything else right in scripture.
And by the way, if you do not know Jesus as LORD and Savior, don't let this moment pass without confessing your sin to Him, and committing to living for Him for the rest of your life. Ask Him to save you. Place your faith in His written Word, which explains to us the sacrifice that He made on the cross at Calvary so that we could be free from the power of sin. He has given us the opportunity to change our eternal destination from hell to heaven. Trust Him today. Romans 10:9-13
