Exodus 20:7 

Thou shalt not take the Name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh His Name in vain.

God takes His Name very seriously. His Name is holy, righteous and just. His Name is majestic and perfect. His Name is not to be taken lightly, used carelessly, or profaned in any way. The world does all these things. The world uses the LORD's Name as a swear word, in careless conversation, and as a filler when they can't think of anything else to say, and because the church has abandoned God's standard, believers do the same thing. 

Believers, using the LORD's Name carelessly is not acceptable. God will judge those who take His Name in vain. We must hold up God's standard for His Name by making sure we revere it. Never should we be caught using God's Name as a filler in casual conversation or as profanity. We must train our minds and our speech to reflect the reverence we have for His holy Name. Many years ago, when I was a substitute teacher in the public school system, I shared this passage of scripture with my classes. 

Many students came from non-Christian homes and had heard their parents and guardians use the Name of the LORD casually on a regular basis. I explained to them that not only was His Name holy and their casual use of His Name an offence to Him, but it offended me also. I asked them how would they feel if someone used their name in association with something profane. Many of them understood and respectfully refrained from profaning the LORD's Name in my presence. If second and third graders could change their behavior after hearing the scripture, believers who are walking with the LORD can do the same.
