Mark 8:36-37
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Society teaches us that we need to work hard and save money. We need to purchase certain creature comforts to make life better. We need to have something tucked away for a rainy day. All these things are okay in and of themselves, but what society doesn't teach us is that these things will have no eternal effect...
Material things, power, and status in the world will all be left behind when we die and face the Righteous Judge. We will answer to the LORD for what kind of relationship we had with Jesus Christ while here on earth. Did we repent of our sins and cry out to Him to be our LORD and Master? Or....did we reject our need for Him and live in opposition to His invitation to live for Him? When we do the former, He will give us entrance into His heaven where we will be in His presence forever. For those who do the latter, they will be turned away and cast into hell, where there is utter darkness, weeping and gnashing of teeth, the worm that never dies, and the fire that will never be quenched (Mark 9).
My question to anyone who does not know the LORD Jesus Christ is this: what is worth taking the chance of spending eternity in hell? I can't think of anything. I remember as a child, my grandmother took me to a church movie night. To this day, I don't remember the name of the "movie", but it was about hell. It scared me so badly that I decided that night I did not want to go to hell! Probably ten years later, I surrendered my life to the LORD Jesus Christ. Nothing is worth one's soul. The Bible says that man cannot love God and money (Matthew 6:24, Luke 16:13). We will choose one and reject the other. Choose wisely, as if you soul depends on it.
