• Believer, salvation is of the Lord. Not the sacrifice alone, but all of it. So many believe that they choose Him, but Scripture is clear that “there is none who seeks for God” (Rom. 3:11).

An outstanding example is Lydia, a woman from Thyatira, a seller of purple fabric, who was present while Paul was speaking by a river. And Luke writes, “the Lord opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul” (Acts 16:14). It was not her own doing to receive the message; God first opened her heart.

There is a two-fold teaching to consider here. First is that we have no room for boasting but rather should be humbled by the fact that God opened our hearts to receive the gospel. As He tells us, it was not according to any deeds we had done in righteousness, but according to His mercy that He saved us (Tit. 3:5).

Second is that we cannot convince anyone of the truth of the gospel, nor is that our job. It is our job simply to preach. It is the Holy Spirit who convicts (Jn. 16:8). It is God who opens the heart (Acts 16:14). We do not want our message to depend upon our cleverness or eloquence; salvation is by the grace and power of God (1 Cor. 2:4-5).

Rejoice, but humbly so, that He chose to open your heart, and in that joy, go share the good news with the lost that God might open the hearts of others as well.

    Evening, December 10

"Whose heart the Lord opened." Acts 16:14

In Lydia's conversion there are many points of interest. It was brought about by providential circumstances. She was a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, but just at the right time for hearing Paul we find her at Philippi; providence, which is the handmaid of grace, led her to the right spot. Again, grace was preparing her soul for the blessing- grace preparing for grace. She did not know the Saviour, but as a Jewess, she knew many truths which were excellent stepping-stones to a knowledge of Jesus. Her conversion took place in the use of the means. On the Sabbath she went when prayer was wont to be made, and there prayer was heard. Never neglect the means of grace; God may bless us when we are not in His house, but we have the greater reason to hope that He will when we are in communion with His saints. Observe the words, "Whose heart the Lord opened." She did not open her own heart. Her prayers did not do it; Paul did not do it. The Lord Himself must open the heart, to receive the things which make for our peace. He alone can put the key into the hole of the door and open it, and get admittance for Himself. He is the heart's master as He is the heart's maker. The first outward evidence of the opened heart was obedience. As soon as Lydia had believed in Jesus, she was baptized. It is a sweet sign of a humble and broken heart, when the child of God is willing to obey a command which is not essential to his salvation, which is not forced upon him by a selfish fear of condemnation, but is a simple act of obedience and of communion with his Master. The next evidence was love, manifesting itself in acts of grateful kindness to the apostles. Love to the saints has ever been a mark of the true convert. Those who do nothing for Christ or His church, give but sorry evidence of an "opened" heart. Lord, evermore give me an opened heart.

  • Good morning Cre8aplace prayer warriors! I have another prayer request. I have shared with you on this platform that I have been under spiritual attack on my job. It has caused unbelievable stress; I had a headache for TWO STRAIGHT WEEKS at one point. It is because there are people in executive leadership who choose a target, and they lean heavily on that target until the target either quits or they find a way to fire them. As of about a month and a half ago, I became their target. They are forcing me to hold a position within the organization that I have repeatedly stated that I do not want. I think the plan is to force me into the position without the proper training so that I can fail at the position, and then fire me for not doing what they didn't train me to do. When I found out that I was going to have to perform these particular duties, I began job hunting. I figure if I have to work, I may as well find a job that I will enjoy versus being forced to do something that I don't want to do, after having enjoyed my previous duties so much. All that to say, I have an interview for a position that I would absolutely LOVE today at 2 pm eastern time. Would you pray that this is an open door for me? If not, would you pray that God would soon lead me to the open door that He has for me? It is inevitable that they are going to eliminate my current position, and then force me out using the new position. Because I am not independently wealthy, I need my job. Please and thank you so much for your prayers.

  • Believer, what do you count as gain? Is it material wealth? Notoriety? Acceptance from those around you?

In light of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus our Lord, these are but rubbish (Phil. 3:8)! Our calling is higher and of higher value than anything from the world. It is not for us to love the world nor the things in it (1 Jn. 2:15-16), but to love Christ, and through Him, our Father in heaven.

Do not set your sights on the things of this world; they all shall perish. Neither lay up treasures for yourself here (Mt. 6:19). This is not our home. One day, we will part, and any earthly treasures will remain behind. As Job stated, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall return there” (Job. 1:21). But when we seek our treasures here, we expose the desire of our hearts, that we long not after God. Forget not, you cannot serve two masters (Mt. 6:24).

Instead, let us put these things behind, seeking the righteousness which is by faith, so we may know the power of Jesus’ resurrection, also knowing the fellowship of His sufferings (Phil. 3:9-10). He left us an example that we should follow in His steps (1 Pet. 2:21), entrusting ourselves to God (1 Pet. 2:23), and dying to sin that we might live to righteousness (1 Pet. 2:24).

    Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening Devotions

    Evening, November 22

"The power of His resurrection." Philippians 3:10

The doctrine of a risen Saviour is exceedingly precious. The resurrection is the corner-stone of the entire building of Christianity. It is the key-stone of the arch of our salvation. It would take a volume to set forth all the streams of living water which flow from this one sacred source, the resurrection of our dear Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; but to know that He has risen, and to have fellowship with Him as such- communing with the risen Saviour by possessing a risen life- seeing Him leave the tomb by leaving the tomb of worldliness ourselves, this is even still more precious. The doctrine is the basis of the experience, but as the flower is more lovely than the root, so is the experience of fellowship with the risen Saviour more lovely than the doctrine itself. I would have you believe that Christ rose from the dead so as to sing of it, and derive all the consolation which it is possible for you to extract from this well-ascertained and well-witnessed fact; but I beseech you, rest not contented even there. Though you cannot, like the disciples, see Him visibly, yet I bid you aspire to see Christ Jesus by the eye of faith; and though, like Mary Magdalene, you may not "touch" Him, yet may you be privileged to converse with Him, and to know that He is risen, you yourselves being risen in Him to newness of life. To know a crucified Saviour as having crucified all my sins, is a high degree of knowledge; but to know a risen Saviour as having justified me, and to realize that He has bestowed upon me new life, having given me to be a new creature through His own newness of life, this is a noble style of experience: short of it, none ought to rest satisfied. May you both "know Him, and the power of His resurrection." Why should souls who are quickened with Jesus, wear the grave-clothes of worldliness and unbelief? Rise, for the Lord is risen.

  • The housing crisis is not something that can be solved by a 50 year mortgage. When that was suggested Trump is not going to be able to crack that nut. With our population diminishing, low birth rate, low paying service industry jobs home ownership is gone for the younger and future generations; except immigrants. Immigrants arrive in this country with big cash accounts. Where did the money come from.

It was probably due to the Charlie Kirk event, wasn’t it? Probably. However, the coverup of what occurred on that fateful Tuesday in September 2001 is still very fresh […]

Pray that the LORD will either open a door for all of us to walk out into other employment (if it is His will for us to leave) or that He will get rid of the people who are trying to get rid of us (if it is His will for us to stay).
    Thank you for your prayers.

I think they are trying to force me out so one of the higher up's wife can have my job. If I were wealthy, I would let her have it! But I need my job to keep a roof over my head, help my two daughters in college and my son who is in a senior in high school. I can't afford for them to force me out right now. Please pray that God will protect my job. Thanks for your prayers! I do not take them for granted...

And just how come our government has mandated, legislated, made law to FORCE fast food restaurants to pay $25-35/hour, and there is a motive. Back in the day, we made everything from A to Z, washing machines, cars, lawnmowers, snd you name it. Along came cheap labor from Japan, China, India, Pakistan and the list goes on. New political leadership problem, “Gee, with us shipping all our manufacturing overseas, where will poeple work in high paying jobs to buy houses, cars, durable and non-durable goods. Solution; grab McDonalds, Burger Kings, and others and get them to pay the same wages our lost manufacturing base USED to pay. Now your Cheese Burger will soon cost as much as a washer and Dryer. I worked for a company the built hardware, electronic, systems and parts for the military; but they shipped all the manufacturing to Mexico. So now we’re building parts for the F35, F18, B2, B1 in Mexico. I think I hear Trump gritting his teeth about our new manufacturing base.

  • Brethren, praise is not simply something we are called to do, it is an attitude we should have ever and always. God tells us more than once that “every knee shall bow to [Him], and every tongue shall give praise to God” (Rom. 14:11).

Do you only praise Him when you feel blessed? When you have received something for which you prayed? Why?

This should not be. Instead, like Job we should say, “The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD” (Job. 1:21). When Job said this, he had just been informed that all his donkeys, oxen, and camels had been stolen, his sheep burned by fire from heaven, his servants attending all of them slain, and lastly, all his children were killed by a house falling on them. Would you, in such a situation, offer up praise to God?

Praise isn’t just a matter of thanking God for accommodating our desires. We are, through Christ, to “continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God” (Heb. 13:15). We are to give thanks in everything, all circumstances, for this is God’s will for us in Christ Jesus (1 Thes. 5:18). Praise is an attitude of the heart.

Whether we have much in worldly wealth or little, whether we are enjoying times of ease or enduring suffering, we are to give praise to God. This is why James tells us to count it all joy when we encounter trials of various kinds (Jas. 1:2-4). This is why Paul, jailed and in chains, sang hymns of praise to God rather than griping and complaining (Acts 16:25).

Regardless our circumstance, we have reason to be eternally grateful to God; for He has given us life through Christ Jesus His Son. Therefore, let us say always with the psalmist, “I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonders. I will be glad and exult in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High” (Ps. 9:1-2).

"I will praise Thee, O Lord." Psalm 9:1

Praise should always follow answered prayer; as the mist of earth's gratitude rises when the sun of heaven's love warms the ground. Hath the Lord been gracious to thee, and inclined His ear to the voice of thy supplication? Then praise Him as long as thou livest. Let the ripe fruit drop upon the fertile soil from which it drew its life. Deny not a song to Him who hath answered thy prayer and given thee the desire of thy heart. To be silent over God's mercies is to incur the guilt of ingratitude; it is to act as basely as the nine lepers, who after they had been cured of their leprosy, returned not to give thanks unto the healing Lord. To forget to praise God is to refuse to benefit ourselves; for praise, like prayer, is one great means of promoting the growth of the spiritual life. It helps to remove our burdens, to excite our hope, to increase our faith. It is a healthful and invigorating exercise which quickens the pulse of the believer, and nerves him for fresh enterprises in his Master's service. To bless God for mercies received is also the way to benefit our fellow-men; "the humble shall hear thereof and be glad." Others who have been in like circumstances shall take comfort if we can say, "Oh! magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together; this poor man cried, and the Lord heard him." Weak hearts will be strengthened, and drooping saints will be revived as they listen to our "songs of deliverance." Their doubts and fears will be rebuked, as we teach and admonish one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. They too shall "sing in the ways of the Lord," when they hear us magnify His holy name. Praise is the most heavenly of Christian duties. The angels pray not, but they cease not to praise both day and night; and the redeemed, clothed in white robes, with palm-branches in their hands, are never weary of singing the new song, "Worthy is the Lamb."

  • Believers, please pray for me. I am under spiritual attack on my job. I am the last person to complain about certain things, but it is as plain as day that some people at work are coming for me.
Right now, I need my job. Thanks for your prayers.
